Vegan Holiday Recipes and Special-Occasion Meals

This is the home of every vegan holiday menu on Stay Healthy Vegan. Each guide is a complete plan for one occasion — the dishes, a day-by-day make-ahead timeline, quantities for your headcount, a pantry checklist and the kitchen gear that makes the day easier — and each one is written for the table most people actually host: a mix of vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters eating the same meal.

The mixed-table hosting playbook

Every menu above follows the same five rules:

  1. One menu for everyone. Cook one vegan meal instead of a main meal plus a “special” plate. It’s less work and nobody feels like an afterthought.
  2. Make the shared things vegan first. Gravy, stuffing, sauces, dressings and desserts touch every plate. Once they are vegan, the whole table is.
  3. Familiar flavours beat imitations. Sage and thyme at Thanksgiving, roast potatoes at Christmas, chocolate at birthdays. A dish people recognise wins over one they have to compare.
  4. Serve family-style, with build-your-own extras. Bowls of toppings and sauces let everyone customise.
  5. Meat is an optional add-on, never a shared ingredient. If a guest brings turkey or ham, it gets its own board, pan and utensils, and the vegan food stays vegan.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good vegan main dish for the holidays?
A centrepiece that can be sliced at the table: a lentil, mushroom and walnut loaf, a mushroom and chestnut wellington, a seitan roast or a stuffed roasted squash. Each of these can be prepared ahead and served with gravy and the usual sides.
How do I host a holiday meal for vegans and meat-eaters?
Cook one vegan menu for everyone rather than separate meals. Choose familiar holiday flavours, make the gravy and sides vegan so they work for every plate, serve family-style, and let any meat dish be an optional add-on with its own serving utensils.
Can vegan holiday food be made ahead?
Most of it. Sauces, gravy, cranberry sauce, curries, desserts and dips keep for two to three days in the fridge, and roasts and casseroles can be assembled a day ahead. Each of our occasion menus includes a day-by-day timeline.
What vegan desserts are good for the holidays?
Pumpkin pie made with silken tofu or coconut cream, chocolate mousse, no-bake cashew cheesecake, apple crumble, chocolate cake and sugar cookies decorated with vegan sprinkles.
